School events bring learning to life and help shape our school culture. They help students build confidence, connect with others and celebrate their progress. Events also give families a chance to be involved in school life and share in their child’s achievements.

Our school events may include:

Tanja Public School Winter Fair

Every year, the Tanja School P&C in close collaboration the school staff organise a fair on the school grounds. It attracts many visitors from the area and further afield with its ethos "homemade, homegrown, local, sustainable" and its embracing and inclusive community.

It is the major fundraising event for the P&C for the year and is seen as a great success both in displaying the vibrancy of Tanja School and raising funds for the school community.

"An amazing event, for all the family young and old! With local stall holders selling beautiful hand made wares, clothing and jewellery, a variety of delicious food, kids activities, learning workshops... Tanja has a great sense of community. We come every year."

School staff host the Tanja Public School Stall to sell the preserves and cakes the students have made in the cooking program.

Much of the ingredients are grown by the children on the school grounds in the kitchen garden program.

Students love sharing what they have made and their school with the visitors. With the guidance of our lovely staff who volunteer their weekend to be part of the joyous event.

Many cakes, biscuits, slices, and fresh locally grown produce are donated by the P&C and larger community to sell at the food stalls. You have to be quick!

There are so many different cakes to choose from, meeting many different dietary needs. They are all dazzling and delicious.

Performers and children's entertainers are a wonderful feature of the Fair, promoting joy and friendship with fun and magic. This is Alexander McKween, Drag King Extraordinaire and Mothina the Magical Facepainting Fairy.

Local Drag King Extraordinaire - Alexander McKween joined us in 2025 for a fun and fabulous book reading event full of glitter and giggles; spreading joy, acceptance and a love of reading. Our school celebrates diversity, encouraging children to be proud of who they are.

Face painting is always a favourite with the kids and the diverse and playful faces bring so much magic and fun to the fair. Our professional Fairy Mothina, (also a parent and member of the P&C) raised money for the school.

The food stalls are all run by the dedicated and friendly P&C, and are chock full of tasty treats, old favourites and flavourful food of various cultures to enjoy on the school grounds while the kids are happy on the play equipment.

Tanja is full of highly talented ceramic artists and table ware potters. Many come to the fair to support the school and sell their pots.

Locally made crafts full of colour and skill are a big part of the Fair stall holders you can expect to see on the oval from 9 am when the fair starts.

The Fair also hosts educational and interactive displays, with experts giving short talks and workshops to children and adults.

National Parks and Wildlife talk about the local environments and what inhabits them. Mycologists bring incredible displays of native and edible mushrooms to explore and play.

Book Week

Book Week is a special time at our school where we celebrate a love of reading. Students take part in fun activities throughout the week.

Open Day and Orientation Days

Tanja School is a personable and nurturing space with lots of parent and carer involvement throughout the terms, and we welcome booking in a time if you want to learn more about your child and the class room.

There are two Orientation Days for new students that occur in term 4. These are often designed around a book, exploring the school with a treasure hunt and cooking in the school kitchen.

P&C meetings

Date: Mondays

Time: 3:30pm

Join our vibrant P&C meetings are held week 2 and 8 of every term at school or online. Parents and carers are welcome to attend. The P&C meetings are flexible to ensure inclusion of all families.
