We offer a range of learning environments. They help students stay engaged, build confidence and enjoy every part of their school day. Our facilities may include:
Our school uses modern technology and digital learning tools. Our resources help students learn, create and stay connected. As a NSW public school, we have access to shared programs and tools available to all schools in the state.
Our school grounds promote freedom of running, playing and interests in sports and athletics but also is a source of creative inspiration.
The oval has several viewing areas to support those playing sport, or to chat with friends, take in the tranquillity and listen to the sounds of birds around you.
All our school buildings are surrounded by plants and green spaces managed by our G.A. The heritage school house is home to the offices and sick bay.
Our welcoming front office is approachable to students, staff and families.
Many of the grounds have fruiting trees, like lemons, oranges, pommes and stone fruit. Having fruit trees helps feed the kitchen garden/cooking program. This connects what the students learn with the world they are in.
Our bright and colourful playground is fun for all ages, giving students confidence to use their bodies and play together. Most high traffic areas have either trees or shade cloth to keep the heat off in the hotter months.
The vibrant classroom is full of colour and adaptable to many technologies and curriculum. It has excellent break-out spaces for different ages and subject matters, as well as communal areas to support collaboration.
A soft nook for reading is loved by all the students.
Music class is a weekly feature of learning with the addition of a specialised music teacher. On other days the students also learn musical instruments in the afternoons with their principal teacher.
Rhythm and percussion instruments are strong aspects of musical engagement and resources available at Tanja Public School.
Tanja School participates in the state STEM program. Each term we receive STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) kits that students of all ages can learn how to use and integrate into subjects. Amongst many are; aeroponics kits, 3D printers, robotics and film making equipment and software to help our scripts and dreams of being a director come to life!
Craft, mathematics and creativity are combined in learning to give numeracy and literacy meaningful purpose for the students. This builds interest, confidence and lateral and critical thinking.
Our students combine outdoor and indoor learning. Drawing and scientific enquiry support observation and critical thinking.
We love that we have a functional and vibrant school kitchen garden program! It is wonderful watching the kids eat all their greens.
A hygienic and commercial grade kitchen for the cooking program with stainless steal accessible benches is still full of light and the sounds of nature.
A fully stocked pantry and cooking cupboard helps!
Tanja also has an abundant of craft and creative art resources, for knitting, painting, print making and more! This year we have engaged in dance and drama in the hall, painting a huge mural in the classroom and ceramics, learning about Japanese tea culture. The school also has an electric kiln to fire student works.
We teach techniques and skills in all areas and encourage students to use those skills learnt to make, create and apply them to their own ideas.
The heritage listed first school building is used as the beautiful library, a place of learning right at the centre of the school.
Books! Books! Books! Fiction, graphic novels, junior fiction, reference and cosy couches to read with windows to let in natural light. What could be better!
